Fera Diagnostics Accustaph Mastitis Detection Plates is a high-sensitivity test for Staph aureus. An easy-to-use, on-farm mastitis diagnostic culture plate, Accustaph is proven to be 100% accurate in determining the presence of Staphylococcus aureus. One plate allows four different milk samples to be cultured. Media is designed with a colored-based classification of bacteria, eliminating the guess work in detecting chronic cows with mixed infections, which often go undetected as staph cows. The color coding differentiates between 5 different staph species: Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus equorum, Staphylococcus warneri, Staphylococcus haemolyticus and Staphylococcus chromogenes. Provides accurate results to determine the best course of treatment. Implementing Accustaph milk culture plates for mastitis detection can help decrease antibiotic use while enhancing the health of your dairy cows. Produced in a sterile environment to eliminate contamination.

  1. Collect the milk from affected quarter, aseptically, into a labeled sterile vial and keep refrigerated until culture.
  2. In a clean environment, using a sterile cotton-tipped swab, streak the sample onto surface of one section of the Accustaph quad plate. Use a side-to-side motion and cover the entire surface of the bacterial media. Culture 4 different milk samples if needed.
  3. Replace the lid and incubate, lid side down, for 16 hours at 37 °C (98.6 °F).
  4. Between 16 and 24 hours, interpret each section of the plate based on the guide images.
  5. Mixed infections may occur. Pure colored colonies in the same section indicated mixed infections. A frozen milk sample may be plated
