Livestock Antibiotics

Most livestock antibiotics require a prescription from a veterinarian to purchase. FDA requirements moved remaining products which were once purchased over-the-counter to prescription requirement status, as of June 2023.

The purpose of antibiotics for livestock is to treat disease and infections. Thus, improving the welfare of animals and reducing mortality and morbidity. Antibiotics are used in dairy production; beef production; sheep, pig, and goat operations; and those being kept as pets. Common antibiotics used in livestock include penicillin, tetracycline, ceftiofur, florfenicol, tilmicosin, enrofloxacin, and tulathromycin. Some of these drugs are more easily recognized as Naxcel, Excenel RTU EZ, Nuflor, Micotil 300, Baytril 100, and Draxxin. These drugs and more like them can be purchased through a veterinary clinic in which a VCPR (veterinary client patient relationship) has been established or through an animal health pharmacy such as Leedstone.

Filling prescriptions with Leedstone pharmacy is fast and easy. Simply present the hard copy of the prescription to our pharmacy staff at the time of pick-up or we’ll contact the veterinarian for you. Placing your order online or over the phone is just as easy. Simply supply Leedstone with your clinic or veterinarian information, animal information, and we’ll contact the veterinarian!

Livestock antibiotics are available in oral, injectable, and in feed form; providing versatility and ease when treating individuals or a group of sick animals. “
