Fera Diagnostics Accutreat Mastitis Detection Plates provide rapid detection of mastitis pathogens to determine if the cow needs treatment. Allows the producer to test clinical and sub-clinical mastitis to quickly determine and differentiate gram-positive pathogens which need antibiotic treatment. Detects Streptococcus spp.; Lactococcus spp. and Enterococcus spp., Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus chromogenes, Staphylococcus haemolyticus, and other coagulase-negative Staphylocci. Accutreat uses color-based classification of bacteria, making it easy to identify specific mastitis pathogens. Bacterial organisms will grow within 16 hours, however, in many cases the causative organism can be identified in 8 to 10 hours.

This quad-plates allows you to test 4 different samples at once. It’s an ideal mastitis culture plate for dairies currently practicing, or interested in implementing, selective dry cow treatment to identify and treat cows or specific quarters that have, or are at risk for, infections. Implementing Accutreat milk culture plates for mastitis detection can help decrease antibiotic use while enhancing the health of your dairy cows. Produced in a sterile environment to eliminate contamination.

Aseptically collect the milk from affected quarter in a labeled sterile vial and keep refrigerated until culture. Wear new, clean, disposable gloves when working with mastitis samples or culture plates, and wash hands when the work is completed.

In a clean environment, dip a sterile cotton-tipped swab or loop into your milk sample. If needed, tap the excess moisture/debris off on the side of your vial. Streak the sample onto surface of one section of the AccuTreat quad-plate. Use a side-to-side motion and cover the entire surface of the bacterial media. Label the back of the plates with the cow info and place upside down (on lid) into incubator at 37 °C.

All bacterial organisms will grow within 16 hours, although in many cases the causative organism can be identified as little as 8 to 10 hours.

A frozen milk sample may be plated.
