Colostrum Replacer & Supplements

As calf raisers we understand the importance of colostrum. Newborns need colostrum, and their survival rate depends on it. Colostrum should be fed as soon as possible after birth or within 24 hours. However, circumstances arise on the farm when colostrum is unavailable or compromised, such as the dam testing positive for Johne’s disease and other reasons resulting in low-quality milk. Be prepared when high-quality colostrum is unavailable, or quality is inadequate by having a colostrum replacer or supplement on-hand. Leedstone offers high-quality calf colostrum replacer and supplements from the brands you trust. Colostrum replacer or supplements are sold in a powder form and easily reconstituted with warm water to feed newborn calves.

What is the difference between colostrum replacer vs supplement? Calf colostrum replacer provides 100 grams of IgG or more, and are given to calves who have received poor-quality colostrum (≤40 g/L) or not enough. Calf colostrum supplements contain less than 100 grams of IgG, given to calves receiving fair colostrum quality (41-50 g/L) or calves receiving high-quality colostrum (>50 g/L) but not enough in quantity. Replacers and supplements are formulated from real bovine colostrum or blood serum to provide immune system support. For such products that are composed of pure bovine colostrum, the colostrum has been collected from dairy cows and processed to be free of any disease pathogens.
Serum-based products are formulated from a blood collection method where the plasma is harvested to provide the source of antibodies for the calf. Feeding high-quality maternal colostrum is still best for the newborn calf. However, colostrum supplement and replacer products are valuable tools to increase calf immunity when colostrum quality is poor or compromised.
