Idexx Alertys OnFarm Pregnancy Test for Cows provides fast, reliable results of bred or open cows. This cow-side test requires minimal handling, reducing stress on the animal. Through blood sample collection, Alertys OnFarm Pregnancy Test for cows and heifers detects pregnancy with a specific type of protein only produced by the placenta, pregnancy-associated glycoproteins (PAGs). PAGs can be detected in whole blood (EDTA), plasma (EDTA) or serum. Easy-to-use, on-farm test takes only minutes to run with results in 20 minutes. Detects pregnancy-associated glycoproteins as early as 28 days post-breeding and 70 days post-calving. PAGs are only produced if embryo or fetus is present, unlike testing progesterone which fluctuates naturally during a cycle. Alertys OnFarm Pregnanacy Test for cows allows the producer to quickly determine open cows on their own schedule. Using a blood sample compared to traditional methods of on-farm preg checking for cows offers increased safety for the producer and workers, less time training, and reduces the risk of incorrect diagnosis of open or bred cows.

Alertys OnFarm Pregnancy Test for Cows kit includes 25 single test pouches, each containing 1 Alertys OnFarm Pregnancy device, 1 pipette and 1 single-use wash solution.  Blood sampling materials are required to run the test, such as blood collection needle, vacutainer needle holder, and blood collection tube (each sold separately).

Labeled for: beef and dairy cows

Species: cattle

  • Cow-side testing identifies pregnant or open cows in minutes.
  • Sample-based pregnancy testing is easy to use with minimal training.
  • Easily preg-check cows when it fits into your schedule.
  • Improves reproductive efficiency.
  • Box includes 25 single test pouches, each containing 1 Alertys OnFarm Pregnancy device, 1 pipette and 1 single-use wash solution.
  • Store at 2 to 30 °C (36 to 86 °F).
  • Devices are stable until expiration date, provided they have been stored properly.
  • Only open pouches for the number of devices to be run at that time. Once pouch has been opened, the device cannot be stored for later use.
  • Whole blood should be stored at 2 to 8 °C (36 to 46 °F) and cannot be stored more than 24 hours.

All samples and devices must be at 15 to 30 °C (59 to 86 °F) before beginning the test procedure.

  1. Place the Alertys OnFarm Pregnancy test device on a clean, flat surface. The device must be kept horizontal throughout the process to ensure accurate results. Write sample ID or stick ID label on the device surface. Keep single-use wash solution and pipette next to the device.
  2. Mix whole blood or serum samples by inverting the tube. Fully squeeze the top bulb of the pipette, submerge the pipette tip into sample tube and release the bulb to draw sample into pipette. Make sure the lower shaft of the pipette is filled completely and does not have any air pockets. Excess sample volume will go into the lower bulb of the pipette.
  3. Squeeze the upper bulb of the pipette to fully dispense sample into the sample port of the device. Excess sample volume will remain in the lower bulb of the pipette. Do not exceed 2 minutes between adding blood and wash solution.
  4. Grab and twist off the single-use wash solution tip. Hold the single-use wash solution vertically and carefully squeeze to dispense 6 drops into the sample port. The wash solution should be added within 2 minutes of sample addition.
Tip: If there is pooling of the sample in the sample port after adding wash solution, gently tap the device until liquid flows through the sample port.
  5. Start a timer and read the device under sufficient lighting at 20 minutes. If both test (T) and control (C) lines appear before 20 minutes, the animal is pregnant, and the test is complete. If there is blood in the result window, allow an additional 5 to 10 minutes for the window to clear.
  6. If needed, devices can be read up to 50 minutes after the wash solution is added. After that time, results are not valid.

Presence of a red or pink test line (T) indicates that the animal is pregnant. The test line may range from dark to very light. The presence of a red or pink test line (T) at any intensity is considered pregnant.

Absence of test line indicates that the animal is open.

The test is invalid if the control line (C) does not appear.

Read the general directions, test procedures and kit components for the Alertys On-Farm Pregnancy Test to help detect pregnancy in cows and heifers as early as 28 days post-breeding.
