Hay Chix Large Bale Net is designed to help slow hay consumption to a more natural rate. Ideal to keep your horses busy in the pasture or paddock. The Large Bale Net is the perfect feeding solution to help you save time and money. Helps round bales last longer and reduces waste. Available in 6’, 5’ or 4’ sizes for either small (4’ x 4’ and under) medium (5’ x 5’) or large (6’ x 6’) round bales. The versatile 6’ net may be used on 4’ x 5’ or 5’x 5’ or big squares. The 5’ net will fit up to a 5’ x 5’ bale, as well as bales such as 4’ x 5’. Made of high-quality, UV-treated Dupont fiber netting, cinch rope and hoggle for secure cinching. The original 1-3/4” opening size is the best choice for horses without slow-feeder-net experience. Designed to slow down horses prone to eating too fast, are generally healthy but waste too much hay. This net is shown to help horses relieve gastrointestinal ulcers and unwanted behaviors such as cribbing.

Labeled for: horses

Species: horse

  • Designed to help round bales last longer and reduce waste.
  • The 6’ net may be used for 4’ x 5’ or 5’ x 5’ round bales.
  • The 5’ net may be used for 5’ x 5’ or 4’ x 5’ round bales.
  • The 4’ net fits smaller round bales (4’x 4’ and under).
  • The original 1-3/4” opening size helps slow down horses that are generally healthy but tend to eat too fast.
  • Not recommended for horned animals, horses with blankets or non-breakaway halters.
  • Nets may be used with shod horses, however, must then be used with traditional hay ring which is flush with the ground.
  • Tensile strength is rated at 385 lb.
  • Using a 6’ net on bales sized 4’ x 5’ or 5’ x 5’ will not cause safety issues or impede your animal’s ability to eat from the net.
  • This net will also fit large square bales: 4’ x 4’ x 8’ and 3’ x 3’ x 9’ in size.

Always remove bailing twine or net wrap before using slow feeder bags. When introducing your horses to the Hay Chix net, always feed ‘loose hay’ for the first week. Some horses may refuse the net at first, assuming you will give them more free-choice hay. Allow them to adjust by offering the free-choice hay and then giving them an extended period of time with the net (12 hours or so) and see how much your horse has eaten.

If your horse is shod, hang the net high enough (or use a hay ring which is flush with the ground), so the horse cannot paw at it and hook a shoe.  Also, you can put the hay net in water tanks, homemade feeders or tires.

Cleaning instructions: Clean your net by using dish soap and warm water, hang to air dry. Do not use harsh chemicals like bleach, as it will break down fibers and cause the netting to become frail. Put your net back into use before it dries all the way; the netting loves moisture.
