The Half Bale Net by Hay Chix is designed to help slow hay consumption to a more natural rate. Ideal to keep your horse busy in the pasture, paddock, during hauling or on a tie line. Made of high-quality, UV-treated Dupont fiber netting, cinch rope and hoggle for secure cinching. The original 1-3/4” opening size is the best choice for horses having never used a slow feed net before. The standard slow feed 1-1/4” opening size significantly slows down hay consumption, making it the ideal size for an easy keeper. The Slow Feed Extreme 1” opening size is designed for extremely easy keepers and animals with metabolic issues.  Designed to slow down horses prone to eating fast, are generally healthy, but waste too much hay. This net has been shown to help horses with ulcers, pawing, weaving and unwanted behaviors during stall rest. Easily attaches to an eye hook, trailer, fence or tree to keep your feeding program on track while on the go. Designed to hold 1/2 small square bale (4 to 6 flakes).

Labeled for: horses

Species: horse

  • Helps keep your feeding program on track while traveling.
  • Great for keeping stalled horses busy.
  • Holds a 1/2 bale of hay.
  • Helps slow down hay consumption.
  • Not recommended for horned animals, horses with blankets or non-breakaway halters.
  • Nets may be used with shod horses but must be used with a traditional hay ring that is flush with the ground or hung high enough so that the horse cannot paw at it.
  • Tensile strength is rated at 385 lb.
  • Handmade in the USA.

Always remove bailing twine or net wrap before using slow feeder bags. When introducing your horses to the Hay CHIX net, always feed ‘loose hay’ for the first week. Some horses may refuse the net at first, assuming you will give them more free-choice hay. Allow them to adjust by offering the free choice hay and then give them an extended period of time with the net (12 hours or so) and see how much your horse has eaten.

If your horse is shod, hang the net high enough so the horse cannot paw and hook a shoe or use a hay ring which is flush with the ground. Also, you can put the hay net in water tanks, homemade feeders or tires.

Cleaning instructions: Clean your net by using dish soap and warm water, hang to air dry. Do not use harsh chemicals, like bleach, as it will break down the fibers and cause the netting to become frail. Another quick tip—put your net back into use before it dries all the way! The netting loves moisture.

    The most versatile hay net!

    RodeoRae

The half bale net is my go-to net. I use it in my horse’s stall at home and at horse shows. They hold the perfect amount of hay and are easy to fill. I have other brands and similar styles but my horses prefer the hay chix net!
