Ketosis in dairy cows usually occurs in early lactation of recently fresh cows (1 to 2 weeks postpartum). This common metabolic disorder of adult cattle occurs when the body’s demand for energy increases, using fat as a source of energy. Commonly occurs when the animal is sick and not eating, not consuming enough energy despite an increase in milk production, improper ration formulation, feed presentation and inadequate feed mixing.
