Species: cattle, calf
This product is extremely sharp; use with caution.
Properly disinfect the scrotum and push the testicles up toward the body as far as possible with one hand. Hold the Newberry knife in the other hand and position it with the blade open; exposing it along the sides of the scrotum halfway up the scrotum, for good drainage.
Insert the blade from side to side (not front to rear), squeeze the handles and cut through the septum that separate the two testicles; then pull down and away from the bull. This leaves separated scrotum and the exposed testicles. Grasp each testicle individually and remove with an emasculator. Never cut the testicles out as this causes excessive bleeding.
It is suggested to use a sedative and local analgesic before performing the castration. Give a mild pain reliever after to reduce stress to the animal which could reduce feed intake. Monitor animals for infection.
