Merck Prestige 5 + VEE Horse Vaccine is for the vaccination of healthy horses, 6 months of age and older, as an aid in prevention of Eastern, Western and Venezuelan encephalomyelitis (EEE, WEE and VEE) viruses, equine influenza virus (EIV), equine herpesvirus type 1 (EHV-1), equine herpesvirus type 4 (EHV-4) and tetanus. Proven duration of immunity for EIV is 6 months. Formulated with Merck’s Advanced filtration process through the Antigen Purification System (APS).

  • Offers protection against EEE, WEE, VEE, EIV, EHV-1 and EHV-4, and tetanus.
  • Provides protection against multiple influenza strains for optimal coverage.
  • Formulated to produce a minimal reaction and maximize protection.
  • Has been shown to decrease virus shedding of EIV and EHV-1.
  • A combination of inactivated, concentrated, adjuvanted, tissue culture origin equine encephalomyelitis viruses (Eastern, Western and Venezuelan), equine herpesviruses types 1 and 4 (EHV-1 and EHV-4), equine influenza virus type H3N8 strains (EIV A/Equine 2/ Kentucky/93 American, EIV A/Equine 2/Kentucky/02 American and EIV A/Equine 2/Newmarket/2/93 Eurasian) and tetanus toxoid. Intervet serological data suggest influenza cross protection against certain U.S. and European strains, including Kentucky 91, 93, 99, 02, Ohio 03, Newmarket/1/93, Newmarket/2/93, Suffolk 89 and South Africa 03.
  • Store at 2 to 8 °C (35 to 46 °F). Shake product well before using.
  • Use entire contents when first opened. Do not mix with other products.
  • This product has not been tested in pregnant animals.
  • Do not vaccinate within 21 days before slaughter.
  • Local reactions may occur at the injection sites in vaccinates, and most of these reactions resolve in 3 to 7 days following vaccination.
  • Systemic reactions may also occur in animals following vaccination. If allergic reaction occurs, treat with Epinephrine.
  • Care should be used to avoid injecting your own fingers, hands, or other body parts. Accidental injection can cause serious local reactions. In case of human exposure, contact a physician.

For primary vaccination aseptically administer 1 ml intramuscularly. Repeat with a single dose in 3 to 4 weeks. Annual revaccination is recommended. A booster dose can be administered at more frequent intervals based on individual horse or farm disease risk assessment or any time epidemic conditions exist or are reported. Consult your veterinarian.

Foals nursing immune dams should be vaccinated when maternal antibody levels allow active immunization.
