A quick and easy way to measure the level of IgG in bovine colostrum, assuring that your calves are getting the levels required to give them the best start in life. Measures specific gravity and gives a quick reading of good versus inferior colostrum. Polypropylene graduated flask with glass indicator cylinder. Complete instructions with the kit.
Labeled for: beef and dairy calves
Species: cattle, calf
: Fill plastic container to the top with room temperature colostrum (about 68 to 70 ËšF). Try to make sure the temperature is close to room temperature as it can affect readings. Make sure to clear away top foam and scum and add more colostrum if necessary. Gently lower the colostrometer into container, allowing excess colostrum to overflow, until the instrument floats freely. Green results mean that the colostrum has sufficient IgG levels to feed to calf.
If the reading is in the yellow or red zone, do not feed as first colostrum. This reading indicates that it may be fed to calves two days of age or older or must be supplemented with a commercial colostrum supplement or replacer or frozen colostrum of high quality.
When reading is complete immediately clean instrument and container for next use.
