Portable gas dehorner ideal for dehorning calves 3 to 8 weeks of age. Lightweight cordless design makes it easy to dehorn calves anywhere. Copper tip reaches 1200 °F in five minutes and stays hot up to 45 minutes on a single fill of fuel. Kills horn growth and controls bleeding. Minimizes the potential for infection. Refills in 20 seconds. Comes in storage case with cleaning brush. Operates on liquid butane lighter fuel (sold separately).
Labeled for: beef and dairy calves and goats
Species: cattle, calf, goat
To fill: Make sure the switch is in the ‘off’ position. In a well-ventilated area, remove protective cap to expose filling valve. Hold unit vertically, with filling valve positioned upwards, and push refill cylinder down on filling valve. Stop filling when gas spills from valve. Wait to ignite for one minute after filling, allowing vapors to dissipate.
To use: Light the dehorner by pointing away from face and turning on the gas supply until you hear a hiss of gas. Pull back on ignition switch. When lit, the sound should be a notable ‘roar’. Allow 5 minutes for dehorner to fully heat up. Clip hair away from the base of horn and press dehorner over the bud for 10 to 15 seconds, rotating dehorner for best effect. When done properly there should be a complete copper-colored ring around the horn. Horn bud will fall off after 4 to 6 weeks.
